Maria José da Silva Fernandes - Chief of the Office of the Rector


Graduated in Biology, she holds an M.S. in Biological Sciences (Molecular Biology) from Unifesp (1991) and a PhD degree in Neuroscience from the same institution (1994). She is Associate Professor in Experimental Neurology from the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Unifesp, having served as head of this discipline in 2012. She has experience in Physiology with emphasis in Neurophysiology, mainly in the following thematic specialties: neurodegenerative diseases, temporal lobe epilepsy, Neurochemistry and Proteomics. She is an ad hoc consultant for Brazilian public agencies (CNPq, Capes, FAPESP, Ministry of Health / Research Program for SUS) and in France (Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale - INSERM), as well as for internationally-indexed scientific journals (Neurobiology of Disease, the Journal of Neuroscience, Epilepsy Research, Brain, Brain Research, among others). She is a member of the Neurobiology Commission (Task Force) of the International League Against Epilepsy (The International League Against Epilepsy - ILAE). Since 2005, she has been a  board member of Unifesp’s Faculty Association (Adunifesp) and held the presidency of that body in the biennium 2009-2011. In the period from 2010 to 2012, she joined the Congregation of the Escola Paulista de Medicina as an elected member and also the Administrative Board of Unifesp. Currently, besides participating in the Board of Trustees and in the Board of Unifesp Planning, she holds the position of chief of staff of the Rectory (2013-2017 term).
