A modern and traditional university, Unifesp has its roots in 1933, when a private medical school was founded. It became a federal institution in 1956 and turned into a federal university in 1994. Now it holds six campuses (São Paulo, Baixada Santista, Diadema, Guarulhos, Osasco and São José dos Campos) with 53 undergraduate courses, 67 graduate programs, 1,500 faculty, 4,000 employees and 17,000 regular students. Unifesp is considered one of the most important institutions in education and research in Brazil. Unifesp´s aims at promoting the social, economic and technological development of Brazil through inseparable activities in education, research and extension. From its beginning, it has been a benchmark for other universities in the country due to its reputation as a top-quality institution for teaching and research.

Concerning our strategies for internationalization, our planning has been foreseen with our Institutional Development Plan since 2011. Based on several of cooperation agreements established in recent years with institutions from 16 different countries and the participation in programs of international organizations, as well as in those supported by the Brazilian government, the university has accelerated its internationalization process. The establishment of strategic partnerships with institutions of highest reputation has produced research outputs of international quality in issues of global significance. At the educational level, Unifesp aims at developing internationally recognized professionals, able to engage in professional practice in a variety of contexts both within and beyond their national borders.

Thus, we constantly pursue interaction among our researchers and those from abroad, opening doors for innovation projects, fostering the opportunity of developing partnerships, complementing our student's education through their exposure to other cultures, and increasing the country´s visibility.

I look forward to seeing you browsing on our website and visiting our university.

Welcome to Unifesp!
